Moorcockhall
Moorcockhall is a renovated shepherd's cottage in the lammemuirs, done up as a family holiday house. It sleeps 4 comfortably with up to six additional spare beds. There are two large reception rooms, one with open fire and the other with woodburning stove.
Moorcockhall used to be home to a shepherd tending black-face sheep on the lammemuirs, but hasn't been lived in full time since the fifties. It was renovated in the early nineties for use as a family holiday cottage. The feel is unashamedly homely rather than smart: sofas are huge and comfy but may reveal the odd spring, the hot water tank is not massive and the bathroom is functional but pretty spartan.
There’s a double and a twin bedroom downstairs, bathroom with loo, kitchen (electric cooker) open to dining/living room, huge sitting room and separate loo. Three attic rooms and an enclosed garden provide plenty of playing space for children; a detached piggery can be used for storing bikes.
Linen and towels are provided for the double and twin rooms. Access is by bumpy farm track from Stoneypath farm - family and friends often brave the track in ordinary cars but we cannot accept liability for vehicle damage.
Moorcockhall nestles in a lowland glacial glen right on the edge of the lammemuirs. The nearest neighbour is Stoneypath farmhouse, a mile down the glen and out of sight. Views to the south are of the lammemuir hills, to the north they encompass the whole East Lothian plain and across the Firth of Forth to Fife. Traprain and North Berwick Laws and the bass rock are clearly visible; Arthurs seat (in Edinburgh) and the Forth Rail Bridge can be seen from the drumlin.
